Kenneth "Kenny" David Kane (commonly known as Killer Kane) is the primary antagonist of the 1993 novel Freak the Mighty, and its 1998 film adaptation The Mighty.

Personality[]

Killer Kane is a psychopathic murder who murdered Max's mother, Annie, right in front of him when he was little. After killing Annie, Killer Kane put Max to bed and told him he was dreaming. The incident traumatized Max greatly. He didn't want to do anything that would negatively impact Killer Kane out of fear of what he might do to him.

Kane can be described as someone who has no restraints about murdering and abusing people, including his own son.

History[]

After Annie's death, Killer Kane went to prison and Max went to live with his grandparents, though he was still haunted by the murder. Kids at school would bully Max by chanting "Killer Kane, Killer Kane, had a son who's got no brain", which referenced Max's dyslexia.

At some point, Max was called into the school office where it was revealed to him that Killer Kane was released from prison on parole. Max completely lost it, even after he was told his father couldn't harm him. Grim wanted to buy a gun for protection, saying that if Kane entered the house, he was going to "deliver some justice". On Christmas Eve, Killer Kane snuck into the house and kidnapped Max, going to the "New Testaments" where Iggy and Loretta Lee live.

Later on, Kane ties Max up and leaves him in an abandoned room. Loretta finds Max and tries to help him, but Kane comes back in the room and starts strangling Loretta to death. Max breaks free and reveals he saw Killer Kane kill his mom. Kane then lets go of Loretta and starts strangling Max to death, but Freak arrives and squirts Kane in the eye with a squirt gun which he claims is filled with sulfuric acid when really, it is filled with soap, vinegar, and curry powder. Killer Kane is taken back to prison and, after pleading guilty in court, has to serve out the rest of his original sentence plus 10 more years. In the film, he is sentenced to prison for life with absolutely zero chance of parole.
